Micro-loans
Women will be offered microloan
opportunities to be involved with the various projects. A loan
officer will be chosen to manage the repayment of the loans.
All of the women in the village guarantee each others' loans
in case of default. This creates an atmosphere of cooperation
and mutuality where one person's success benefits all. This method
of financing provides an atmosphere of dignity, ownership, and
expectation of their success.
Custom Carpet Project
Quilting Project
To make quilts and toshaks
(cushions used for sitting) for resale to NGO's (Non Government
Organization) for distribution. Many NGOs purchase these quilts
to distribute to refugees.
Beauty Salon
Even under the rule
of the Taliban, many woman continued to go to secret salons and
wear make-up under their burqas. Like all women, Afghan women
want to feel beautiful. Continuing to attend to themselves was
a symbolic self-preservation and resistance of control. There
is a market for beauty salons and women will have an opportunity
to train for this business and provide services at the Hope Village.
